For:

The Master of Arts in Teaching: Pedagogy-only is designed for those who have demonstrated content expertise in one of the teaching areas for middle grades (4-8), secondary (6-12), and all P-12 fields (except special education) and would now like to become certified to teach that subject.

How You Learn:

Program candidates have already completed a bachelor’s degree and may be working full time. For this reason, we have designed a high-quality, 100% online program. Program field experiences allow candidates to apply the pedagogical skills gleaned from coursework into school settings. Arrangements can be made for candidates to complete both field experiences and clinical practice (also known as student teaching) in localities where they live. The program includes a one semester traditional clinical practice experience. During this time, candidates work alongside a master teacher, Monday through Friday, to further refine their teaching skills and prepare for their own classrooms. Many candidates may already be serving in a school setting as a teacher or paraprofessional. Most of these candidates may complete field experiences and clinical practice while continuing to serve in their current placement. The MAT: Pedagogy-only program employs a cohort model. Candidates complete the program in only three semesters earning 33 credit hours.

Career Outcomes:

The Master of Arts: Pedagogy-only program leads to an advanced degree and initial teacher certification in middle grades (4-8), secondary (6-12 ), or a P-12 field. Graduates of this program will enter the teaching profession at the master’s degree level (known as T-5 certification in Georgia) and earn a higher rate of pay than those who enter at the bachelor’s degree level.
