The purpose of this guide is to serve as a starting point with Chicago formatting. The Chicago Manual of Style provides more detailed information and many excellent examples. The most recent edition of the The Chicago Manual of Style is the 17th edition and is available in the library.

Changes in the 17th edition

  1. The use of ibid. for subsequent citations is now discouraged in favor of shortened citations. (14.29)
